Award 2001

The winners

  • The Golden Award, worth 50.000 Euro, went to Wavin for a continuous process for Bi-oriented PVC pipes. However, the Jury gave a special mention to two especially worthy entries.
  • 0ne Silver Award was for Pipelife Netherlands, who received 25.000 EUR either for no-leak house-connection saddle-fittings and gas flow stoppers for Ductile PVC gas distribution.
  • The other Silver award, for 25.000 EUR, went to Marley Floors for a Flooring incorporating post consumer recycled granules.
  • The Bronze Award, for 10.000 Euro, went to Deceuninck for Acoustic insulation walls for highways made of pre and post consumer recycled PVC.
  • Renolit presented a film for digital printing, with specific additives in the PVC matrix that allow inks to adhere better. Giovanni Crespi was also honoured for its pecularily inventive collection of flexible sheets to be used in fashion items.

The Projects

84 entries were considered. The profusion of entries demonstrated the inventiveness and enthusiasm of those who are preparing for the future of PVC, at all stages of the products' manufacturing and life cycle. The contestants, were essentially processors and compounders, but also academic institutions, private people, recyclers and machine-tool producers as well as additive producers.

The Jury

Out of the Eighty-four contestants who applied for the first SolVin Award for PVC Innovation, the Jury selected 4 winners. The decision was made by a jury of four representative and highly qualified independent experts : Pr Buekens, President of the Jury, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Pr Schmitt, Süddeutsches Kunststoffzentrum, Mr.Dierinckx, European Plastics Converters (EuPC) and Mr De Grève, European Council of Vinyl Manufacturers (ECVM). In making their decision, they looked at criteria such as contribution to a positive image of PVC, originality, improvements brought to existing products or processes, economic potential, safety, respect of the environment.
