Colourful Cities by Turning Signposts into Billboards

Why throw used PVC away in a landfill when you can dress up your street sign poles with it? Wallcovering Pubblicità of Italy takes it a step further. Its TrialSystem® makes signs more eye-catching and safety-intensive.

The raw materials? Some of the toughest end-of-life PVC to recycle. The process? Using an extrusion-injection process.

‘’At Wallcovering Pubblicità, we’ve been active for the past 35 years in the field of design and integrated communication, looking for functional solutions for the urban environment,’’ says founder and CEO Davide Noti.

The initial concept: take the existing multitude of street signs and signals and find a sustainable way to turn them into billboards using colourful, recycled PVC.

TrialSystem was born from this simple idea!

‘’TrialSystem is an innovative kind of eco-design that satisfies two key needs of contemporary urban habitats: communication and respect for the environment,’’ says Noti.

It consists of two weight-bearing elements and one for closure; the sheath is triangular with an open angle, the ends of which includes the dual-section rod to stabilise it and finally, a plug that closes the two main elements.  TrialSystem can be customized on three sides and provide information on streets, display advertising messages or details about sponsors.

This concept can open up all kinds of possibilities such as : it can also exploit wireless technology which can be installed on the inside allowing an innovative manner of communication with the public.

Signposts that communicate. What a concept!
