It’s a simple and fun concept tackling a serious challenge – how to keep as much PVC as possible out of growing landfills.
The answer was found in Liverpool (UK), when it was European Capital of Culture back in 2007. The banners promoting it turned on a light bulb in the head of Mr Paul Gilbraith.
‘’It seemed such a shame to throw all those colourful banners away at the end of the year,’’ says Mr Gilbraith.
And then more light bulbs lit.
‘’It was clear there was significant opportunity to utilise other fantastically diverse and vibrant source material,’’ Mr Paul Gilbraith says. ‘’Those materials have now helped establish several product lines which have a high design value and therefore are fun to work with.’’
And so a concept and a company name were born. So was another win-win, for the PVC industry as well as the environment.
‘’All of us are becoming more aware of the need to manage our environmental impact and disposing short life consumable products to landfill is becoming less acceptable and less economically viable,’’ Mr Gilbraith says.
There are many designs to choose from: laptop, flight, dispatch, tote shoppers, sports bags, and more to come.
“At Bannerbags we are proud to have assisted many companies to reduce their environmental impact by converting tonnes and tonnes of banners into valuable products. Without our ‘’service,’’ these materials would have been landfilled, or at best, converted into low-value products.’’
The awards, and the opportunities, keep on coming.
‘We have been nominated for numerous awards covering several aspects of our business and, indeed, picked up some along the way. They recognise our entrepreneurship and design creativity but also that we are making a positive contribution towards recycling. All in all, we are extremely happy with the past four years’ work and look forward to continuing to develop our business further.’’
And the light bulbs keep flashing…
