SIOEN INDUSTRIES
Years ago Sioen actively responded to the needs of its customers by developing new PVC based qualities with reduced ecological impact. Our broad range of phthalate free PVC coated textiles is one example. Another more recent development deals with food grade PVC coated polyester fabrics that can be used as flexitank material for e.g. drinking water (B6303, 1100 g/m2) or as cover material for e.g. fruits and vegetables (B7303, 550 g/m2). Both products are fully compliant with European legislation (European Directive 2002/72/EC and its amendments) on food packaging materials, meaning that: all ingredients are listed on the European positive lists, individual and overall migration limits are respected, requirements with respect to smell and taste are respected. Detailed chemical analysis of numerous competitor products for food applications showed that Sioen’s products are unique!

Catégorie:InnovationGraffiti is a general problem in our society. Once applied onto walls, plastics, wood, etc. these substances are very difficult to get rid off. The same goes for graffiti on PVC coated polyester substrates. Since graffiti paints are all based on aggressive solvents, PVC coated textiles (e.g. trailer covers, tents & textile architectures, train covers, banners, etc.) are irreversibly damaged due to the penetration of its ingredients into the substrate. As a spin-off activity within the European project CONTEX-T, Sioen has developed a unique lacquer that can withstand these aggressive graffiti paints. This lacquer, which is based on advanced copolymeric species, can be applied by coating or spraying and results in an excellent barrier to all kinds of graffiti paints.

Catégorie:InnovationSioen produces ca. 75 Mio m2 of coated textiles per year, the majority being based on PVC as coating material. Since 2008 Sioen has been actively researching the possibilities to incorporate electronics into such technical textiles. Examples are incorporation of light, electronic security systems, heating and photovoltaic cells. Incorporation of electronics strongly increases the functionality of the coated textiles and results in new materials for all kinds of applications. This submission is focussed on PVC based flexible photovoltaic laminates that can be (non-)permanently connected to PVC coated fabrics, e.g. for tents and textile architectures, trailers, etc. Sioen expects to commercialize its PV laminates by Q42 010 under the name SioSOLAR.
