Electro pipe with EMI shielding properties

Electric installation conduits with an added functionality: shielding of electromagnetic fields generated by electric current in the wires that are covered by the conduits. This phenomenon is also called “electrosmog”.

Possible applications:

– added functionality on electro pipes that contributes to the general health protection of people in buildings

– extra protection of data in cables in those locations where data cables and power cables are in close proximity

– prevent disruption of sensitive equipment in hospitals

The electric conduits for installation of wire and cables can be either stiff/smooth or corrugated.

Low smoke PVC electro pipe

Polyvinyl chloride has a relatively high chlorine content. Therefore, many PVC compositions have good flame retardancy. This is especially true for unplasticized PVC compositions. Without special additives, rigid PVC complies with the fire test of the European standard for electro pipes (IEC 61386). However, a certain level of smoke development does occur when ordinary PVC electric conduits are set in fire. Although this particular standard does not contain requirements concerning smoke evolution, a reduction of the smoke evolution is desired. In the present invention, the PVC U formulations developed can favourably be extruded into electric conduits at a usual temperature. Besides a good processability, the pipes still have mechanical properties (bending, impact) in the same classification range. Under the conditions of a test often used for cables (IEC 61034), the new formulations give approximately 30% less smoke compared to the standard products.

Gas/safety stop

Pipelife is developing a new fitting for the Polsafe system for gas distribution. The new fitting is a T-piece with an integrated gasstop. This gasstop closes and stops the gasflow when a pipe breaks (for example caused by excavation). So in this way the integrated gas-stop improves the safety of the gas distribution system by introducing an extra safety device. The product will be produced by injection moulding. The product is only for the Dutch market, because in other countries different systems are used for gas distribution.

Electro pipe with low friction inner layer

Electric conduits for installation of wire and cables provided with a low friction inner layer (both for stiff / smooth and corrugated / flexible pipes). The product is manufactured by extrusion and is available on the market since January 2008. The product is patented. Electric conduits for installation of wire and cables provided with a low friction inner layer are available for both stiff or smooth and for corrugated / flexible pipes. Time and effort required to insert wires into electric conduits can be reduced, when using an electric conduit that is provided with a friction-reducing inside layer. A faster installation time means cost saving on the installation. The risk that wires are damaged is also reduced.

PVC drainage pipe with filter supported by PVC stripes

The product is a new PVC flexible drainage pipe, which consists of a single wall corrugated pipe and a number of longitudinal extruded soft PVC stripes which support a wrapped geo-textile. The structure supports the geo-textile so that between the pipe and the filter is left just the right space for the build-up of the necessary bed of soil particles. The production of the product can be in one step with the help of a special cross die-head, reducing the production costs. The product provides a stiffer filter with a better long-term performance. The production method is suitable for all filter types in respect to different soil particle sizes and different soils. The intergraded filter and its relevant characteristics (perforation density, number of stripes, diameter of stripes, geo-textile type) is build according to the required pipe performance which is described by the drainage standards.

Low Friction Flexivolt and Polivolt break speed records

The low friction Flexivolt pipes reduce the friction for pulling cables into the protection pipes and allow important savings in working time for the installation of the cables and the use of lower power for pulling the cables.

The last developments in the Eletrical and Cable PVC industry consist of modifing the inner layer of the flexible corrugated pipes. This surface modification realy eases the work of the electricians during the installation of the cables in the building, as they slip better. This leads to cost and time savings.
